(www.defsec.info) - Sean Christopher Towers, allegedly head of an international drug trafficking ring was arrested in Almaty and extradited to Tajikistan, national security officials said in the Kazakhstan city.

During an international operation agents of the Commission of National Security of Kazakhstan (KNB RK) helped security services of Tajikistan in arresting a head and organizer of an international drug trafficking group, Mr Towers. A press release of the KNB says that agency to fight drug trafficking under direct control of Tajikistan’s president (AKN) detected a channel to contraband large parties of narcotics between Dushanbe and Madrid/Spain. Head of that organization is allegedly Mr Sean Christopher Towers, citizen of UK.

He hired people from Central Asian countries to serve as drug couriers, Kazakhstan Today daily reported. Agents of Tajik AKN intercepted a large heroin transport, arrested couriers but the head of the group fled from the scene, left the country. AKN contacted Kazakhstan security organs saying that Mr Towers is supposed to be in Kazakhstan. During a large scale operation of the KNB in Kazakhstan Mr Towers was arrested and later extradited to Tajikistan, the press release says.
