Batumi oil transshipments down in August

(SRI) - Batumi oil terminal located on the Georgian coast of the Black Sea reduced transhipments to 512,200 tons in August. In the same month of last year, the terminal handled 889,100 tons of oil and oil products.

The decrease was caused by the Georgian-Russian conflict in result of which railway transportation of goods to Batumi was temporarily halted.

Batumi oil terminal is fully controlled by KazMunaiGas since February this year when the oil company acquired control from the Greenoak Holdings investment group. The facility tranships oil and oil products from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. In 2007, transhipments amounted to 9.5 million tons, down from 11.7 million tons reached in 2006.
