Sunkar resources to buy sulfur from TCO

(SRI) - Sunkar Resources, a Kazakhstan-based phosphate fertiliser producer, signed a protocol of intentions with Tengizchevroil (TCO) to acquire sulfur from TCO’s Tengiz oil field starting in 2011, the company announced in a press release.

Sunkar intends to use sulfur for the production of sulfuric acid at the plant to be installed on its Chilisai phosphate deposit. The sulfuric acid is intended to be used for the further production of phosphoric acid.

“Sulphur is a key input in producing phosphate fertilisers and we think that immediate vicinity of vast sulphur source such as Tengiz field connected to Chilisai field by direct rail link is significant advantage of Chilisai project. Co-operation between Sunkar and TCO should bring real benefits for both companies,” Sunkar’s CEO Serikjan Utegen said.
