Economic crisis puts pressure on Kazakhstan’s reserves
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s foreign currency and gold reserves, including those held by the National Fund, have increased by 14.5 percent in 2008. Due to the falling price of oil, however, the trend is unlikely to continue this year, as the pressure on Kazakhstan’s existing reserves grows.

(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s economy is likely to grow only one percent this year, the the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects. At the same time, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Economy and Budget planning does not exclude a contraction in GDP in first quarter of 2009.

(SRI) - CIS-focused private equity firm SigmaBleyzer acquired a controlling stake in Kazakh mineral water producer Asem-Ai, the firm announced last week.

Kazakhstan expects reduced air, rail transports

(SRI) - A reduction in the volume of railway transportations in Kazakhstan is expected in the first quarter of 2009, Serik Akhmetov, Kazakh Minister of Transport and Communication said at the collegium of the Ministry.

Prime minister instructs Ministry of Energy and KMG to develop action plan for refineries

(KazTAG) - Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov instructed the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the national oil company KazMunaiGas (KMG) to develop plans to develop the three refineries in the country.
