Kazakhstan turns up heat on Moldovan oligarch oil assets
(bne) - Kazakh authorities have brought criminal charges and tax claims against oil companies owned by the oppositional Moldovan oligarch Anatol Stati, in what appears to be a case of authoritarian rulers in the former Soviet bloc learning to cover each other’s backs.

Karachaganak third-phase plans to be decided this year - BG
(SRI) - BG Group Plc, the British oil and gas company, said on Wednesday it hoped to reach a decision on the design of a delayed expansion of its Karachaganak project in Kazakhstan by the end of the year.

Kazzinc to increase production; expects lower revenues in 2009
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s zinc producer Kazzinc plans to increase its production of zinc, lead and gold this year despite falling demand and low metal prices but warns that revenues will be a third lower than in 2008.

Kazatomprom eyeing Brazilian company
(SRI) - Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan’s state nuclear company, is considering to acquire a Brazilian producer of tantalum, a heavy metal used to make reactor parts.

Kazakh oil group seeks acquisitions
(Financial Times) - KazMunaigas Exploration and Production, the listed arm of Kazakhstan’s national oil company, has $4 billion of cash available for acquisitions and hopes to agree deals before the end of the year.

KMG EP projects fall in output in 2009
(SRI) - KazMunaiGas Exploration Production (KMG EP) expects crude oil production to fall 3.5 percent in 2009.

Kazakh banks won’t need further aid - Marchenko
(Bloomberg) - Kazakhstan’s banks, three of which have defaulted on their debt payments, need “no additional” state aid this year, central bank Chairman Grigoriy Marchenko said.
