Kazakhstan has no intention to use the new currency controls law now - central banker
(SRI) - The currency controls legislation which comes into effect on August 11 is mainly precautionary and Kazakhstan does not intend to use it under current circumstances, deputy central bank chairman Daniyar Akishev said on Wednesday.

Zhaikmunai confirms $300 million share placement
(SRI) - Zhaikmunai, an independent Kazakhstan-focused oil company, officially announced a $300 million placement of new shares to Wednesday, mainly in the form of global depositary receipts (GDRs).

S&P downgrades Kazakhstan’s banking sector
(S&P) - Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services said on Wednesday it revised downward to Group 9 from Group 8 its Banking Industry Country Risk Assessment (BICRA) on Kazakhstan.

Uighur leader says 10,000 went missing in one night

(Reuters) - Nearly 10,000 Uighurs involved in deadly riots in China’s northwestern Xinjiang region went missing in one night, exiled Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer said Wednesday, calling for an international investigation.

Kazkommertsbank to place $66 million bond issue on KASE

(SRI) - Kazkommertsbank reportedly plans to issue KZT10 billion ($66 million) worth of subordinated bonds on Thursday, 30 July 2009, the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) said on Wednesday.
