(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s financial regulator imposed a deadline on BTA Bank to complete its debt restructuring by September 18, notwithstanding a possibly negative impact on the country’s reputation with Western investors.

Kazatomprom to become world’s largest uranium producer by year-end
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s state nuclear company Kazatomprom expects to produce 14,000 tons of uranium in 2009 and become the world’s largest producer by the end of the year.

Economic growth down 4.1 percent in first half of 2009
(SRI) - Preliminary data suggest that in the first half of 2009 Kazakhstan’s GDP has declined by 4.1 percent compared to the analogous period in the first six months of 2008.

(SRI) - Kazakhstan raised export duties for petroleum products from $67.29 per ton to $59.87 per ton but left the crude oil export tax unchanged at zero, according to a government decree.
