(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 2.3 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2009, the state statistical agency said on Thursday, a better than expected result.

(AP) - Kazakhstan’s highest court refused Thursday to overturn a prison sentence for a newspaper editor in a case that has drawn widespread international condemnation.

(SRI) - The likely bankruptcy of Astana Finance will not be executed according to Kazakh banking legislation since the company is a non-banking financial institution and thus not under the jurisdiction of the Financial Supervision Agency (FSA).

Kazakhstan’s Uighurs rally to mourn Xinjiang dead

(Reuters) - Hundreds of Uighurs rallied in Kazakhstan’s largest city Almaty on Thursday to mourn those who died in violent clashes in the neighboring Xinjiang region of China last month and to call for its independence.
