(SRI) - Astana Finance reported a net loss of KZT116.7 billion ($778 million) in the first nine months of 2009, according to unaudited financial statements published on the website of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE).

Kazakhstan’s current account deficit totaling $3.4 billion in Jan-Sep
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s current account deficit in the first nine months of 2009 totaled $3.4 billion, the National Bank of Kazakhstan reported last week.

Berlusconi hails Kazakh men for population growth
(Reuters) - Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi praised the virility of Kazakhstan’s men during a visit to Rome by its president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, saying this was the reason for the former Soviet country’s population growth.

Zhaikmunai’s test well exceeds expectations

(SRI) - Zhaikmunai, a Kazakhstan-focused oil company, reported positive results from testing its future production well 119 in the north-eastern part of the Chinarevskoye oil and gas condensate field, the company said in a press release.

Kyrgyz journalist brutally murdered - police

(AFP) - The editor of a newspaper that frequently criticised the secret police in ex-Soviet Kyrgyzstan has died after a savage attack in which he was stabbed more than a dozen times, police said Thursday.

(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s foreign reserves (including the National Fund) grew slightly by 0.06 percent to $43.9 billion in October, the National Bank reported.
