(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s GDP shrank 2.2 percent year-on-year in the first nine months of 2009, according to the State Statistics Agency. Its foreign trade surplus meanwhile fell almost 70 percent to $8.8 billion from $28.1 billion in January through September 2008.

(SRI) - Tethys Petroleum, a Kazakhstan-focused oil company, has reportedly filed an application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to list on the exchange in the first quarter of 2010, Chinese media reported, citing market sources.

(SRI) - Moody’s downgraded the long-term issuer and debt ratings of Astana Finance to C from Ca with a stable outlook.
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s crude steel output fell by 10.5 percent year-on-year in January through October to 3.415 million tons, Interfax reported citing the State Statistics Agency.
(SRI) - Kazakhstan’s banking sector reached the bottom this fall and is now on its way to recovery, according to a research report authored by Russian investment bank VTB Capital.
