Central bank forecasts inflation at 6-8 percent in 2010

(SRI) - The National Bank of Kazakhstan forecasts inflation in 2010 at 6-8 percent, the central bank’s chairman Grigoriy Marchenko said on Wednesday.

In 2009, inflation was 6.2 percent. Inflation in Kazakhstan spiked in 2007 reaching 18.8 percent but slowed to 9.5 percent in 2008.

Experts expect food prices to rise by around 7 percent in 2010, roughly in line with the overall inflation. In 2009, food prices increased by 3 percent.
