Kazakhstan mulls tax breaks for Kazakhmys project

(SRI) - Kazakhstan may grant tax breaks to the Boschekul copper mining project managed by Kazakhmys, Kazakhstan’s largest copper producer, Minister of Industry and Trade Aset Isekeshev said on Tuesday in a government meeting.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to classify Boschekul as a low-profit contract, which would make it eligible for lower tax rates under Kazakh law.

The Boschekul field is located in Pavlodar region in northeastern Kazakhstan. It is expected to produce about 100,000 tons of copper concentrate a year, once it comes online in 2014.
