EU destination of 48 percent of Kazakh exports - EC

(SRI) - Forty-eight percent of Kazakhstan’s exports went to the European Union in 2009, head of the European Commission to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, Ambassador Norbert Jousten, said on Monday, Kazakhstan Today reported.

“The European Union […] has been the main trading partner of Central Asia, and especially Kazakhstan. In 2009, more than 48 percent of Kazakhstan’s exports went to the European Union. EU imports made up 27 percent of all imports,” Jousten said.

The European Union manages various programs promoting economic development of Central Asian countries.

“Improvement of the business climate, development of small and medium enterprises and legal frameworks are the key parameters that define growth of trade and economic development,” Jousten said.

  1. It would be interesting to know what types of goods were imported in to the EU. I can buy Kazakh vodka (Snow Queen) but I’m not aware of anything else.
