(SRI) - SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s national oil company, and KMG Transcaspian, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s state-owned oil company KazMunaiGas, announced a tender for the feasibility study of the Trans-Caspian System, the maritime portion of the planned Kazakhstan Caspian Transportation System (KCTS).
KCTS is a proposed integrated system for transportation of Kazakh oil, mainly from the giant Kashagan oil field, across the Caspian Sea to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. Currently, the KCTS consists of the Eskene-Kuryk pipeline, which will connect the Kazakh oil fields to the planned deep-sea port Kuryk, and the Trans-Caspian System. The Trans-Caspian System includes loading terminals in Kuryk and Baku, shuttle tankers, and connection facilities to the BTC pipeline.
The initial capacity of the KCTS is expected to be 23 million tonnes of crude oil per year.
