Appointments: Minister for Economic Integration, KNB, Prosecutor General, Senate Speaker

(SRI) - Zhanar Aitzhanova, Kazakhstan’s lead WTO negotiator, has been named Minister for Economic Integration, a newly created government position, Prime Minister Karim Masimov announced last week.

Despite Aitzhanova’s appointment, Masimov stressed that there are no plans to create a separate new ministry. “The working body will be the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade [headed by Kairat Kelimbetov],” Masimov said.

Nurtay Abykayev has been reappointed head of the Committee for National Security (KNB), Kazakhstan’s state security agency. Abykayev has served in his position since August 2010.

Askhat Daulbay has been named the new Prosecutor General, President Nursultan Nazarbayev said on Friday. Prior to his appointment, Daulbay served as the Deputy Prosecutor General.

Kazakhstan’s Senate has confirmed Bektas Beknazarov as the new chairman of the Supreme Court, replacing Musabek Alimbekov. Until his appointment, Beknazarov served as the chairman of the Aktyubinsk Regional Court.

Kairat Mami has been selected as the Speaker of the Senate, replacing Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev who had been appointed general director of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). Mami had previously served as Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General.

Dauren Makhazhanov has been appointed the new head of Agrarian Credit Corporation, head of the KazAgro holding Berik Beysengaliev said on Friday.
